Hours and Rates

Keeping the Penobscot Narrows Observatory open and accessible is made possible through charging a fee to access the observatory. Funds raised through this fee are used to staff the facility, as well as defray costs for power, water and observatory safety systems. Your support makes the continued operation of the observatory possible. Thank you.

The Observatory is open daily from May 1 through October 31. Normal operating hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but in July and August, the Observatory has extended hours from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Visitors can also take advantage of our moonlight madness dates when the observatory is open until midnight

Interested in taking a group to the observatory? Advance group ticket sales are available! Please call our group ticket sales office at (207) 469-6553 during weekday business hours.

Please note that your ticket will be time-stamped with a visitation period. This allows us maximize your experience in the tower by limiting the number of people who can be in the observatory at one time. If you have a wait, please visit historic Fort Knox, or explore the area until it is your time to ride to the top.

Special Notice: Please note that the opening of the Observatory for 2013 has been delayed till May 18, 2013, due to the demolition of the Waldo-Hancock Bridge. For Knox is open and ready for visitors as usual on May 1st. View detail...

Admission Fees

  • Fort Knox and Penobscot Narrows Observatory:
    • Adults 12 & older - Maine Resident: $5.00
    • Adults 12 & older - Non-Resident: $7.00
    • Seniors - Non-Resident: $4.00
    • Children 5 – 11: $3.00
  • Fort Knox Only
    • Adults 12 & older - Maine Resident: $3.00
    • Adults 12 & older - Non-Resident: $4.50
    • Maine Seniors: Free
    • Seniors - Non-Resident: $1.50
    • Children 5 – 11: $1.00

Observatory Hours - Daily

  • May 1 to June 30, 2009: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • July 1 to August 31, 2009: 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • September 1 to October 31, 2009: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
