How to Manage your Road Signs

--new SIMS program available--

Not many municipal officials think about HOW MANY signs there are in their town or how much it costs to maintain them. The Center now has a computer program called the Sign Inventory Management System (SIMS) which allows a town to inventory and maintain records about all their local signs. Effective maintenance of traffic signs is essential to ensure motorist safety and it is the best defense against liability claims involving traffic signs.

This program has the following features:

  • Inventory

  • Condition asserssment

  • Repair decisions

  • Priority analysis

  • Work orders

  • Maintenance history

  • Parts management

  • A full notebook and computer disk is available for a nominal charge of $25 to towns and counties in Maine.
