Description of State Maintenance Boundary Lines established for

delimiting the urban area of

Caribou, Aroostook County, Maine

 

Caribou

Beginning at a point of Sweden Street (State Route 161) 0.62 mile north of Woodland Road (State Route 228), point of reference utility pole #57 west side of street; thence, due east to the west boundary of the Caribou Municipal Airport; thence, northerly and easterly via the said boundary to the northernmost point of said boundary; thence, easterly to the junction of North Main Street and the westerly right-of-way of U.S. Route 1; thence, southeasterly via said right-of-way boundary to a culvert 0.03 mile northwesterly of Bennett Drive; thence, easterly crossing Longfellow Brook along the northerly right of way of State Route #89 to a point 0.08 mile west of the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad underpass (Bridge #5581).

 

Thence, southeasterly crossing the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad to Limestone Street #2 at the junction of an unnamed lane 0.51 mile northeasterly from Longfellow Brook, point of reference utility pole #58 south side of road; thence, due south crossing another branch of the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad into the Aroostook River; thence, southwesterly via said river to a point due west of a Canadian-Pacific R.R. Grade crossing on the River Road; thence, due east to the River Road at said crossing; thence, southwesterly to the junction of Fort Street (State Route 161) and East Presque Isle Road (State Route 205); thence, southwesterly crossing the Canadian Pacific Railroad and the Aroostook River to the southern extremity of Lyndon Street; thence, northwesterly crossing Bangor and Aroostook Railroad to the bridge over the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad Spur on U.S. Route 1; thence, southerly via the west right-of-way boundary of U.S. Route 1 to the eastern extremity of Katahdin Avenue; thence, southwesterly through the eastern extremity of Oak Avenue to the junction of Wilbur Avenue and Summit Street; thence, southerly to South Main Street (State Route 164) 0.41 mile south of Highland Avenue, point of reference utility pole #271 west side of road;

 

Thence, northwesterly to the junction of Russ Street and Burns Avenue; thence, northerly to a point on York Street 0.05 mile southwesterly of Sincock Road, point of reference utility pole #17 northwesterly side of road; thence, southwesterly crossing Caribou Stream to the confluence of Caribou Stream and Mile Brook; thence, northwesterly to Washburn Street (State Route 164) 0.23 mile southwest of Brook Street, point of reference utility pole #19 south side of road; thence northwesterly to the junction of Woodland Road (State Route 228) and Lombard Road (Rural Road #531) 0.64 mile west of Sweden Street (State Route 161); thence, northeasterly crossing Mile Brook to Sweden Street (State Route 161) at a point 0.62 mile north of Woodland Road (State Route 228), the point of beginning.

 

NOTE: Bridges, if any, bisected by the State Maintenance Line are in the rural area
