Repairs Scheduled for Route 1 Woolwich Bridge

MaineDOT is scheduled to begin repairs on the Station 46 Bridge in Woolwich starting the week of April 6, 2009. The bridge is located on Route 1 in Woolwich and spans the railroad line adjacent to the Taste of Maine Restaurant. Repairs to the bridge will be completed in stages in order assure that two-way traffic is maintained at all times on Route 1.

A recent inspection of the bridge revealed accelerated deterioration of the south abutment backwall which necessitated the repairs. This wall supports the roadway on the southern side of the bridge. If the repairs proceed as planned, all work is expected to be completed by May 22, which is the Friday preceding Memorial Day Weekend.

MaineDOT crews will also be patching the roadway surface of the bridge during the bridge repair time period. Motorists are asked to drive with caution through the construction zone. There will be advance warning signs position on Route 1, as well as traffic barrels for lane shifts.
