Albee Bridge In Whitefield Reduced to one lane for repairs

MaineDOT is alerting motorists who use Routes 194/218 in Whitefield that the Albee Bridge, which spans the Sheepscot River, will be reduced to one lane so MaineDOT bridge maintenance crews can repair the bridge.

The concrete girder bridge, built in 1946, is exhibiting signs of deterioration on both the concrete support beams and concrete support piers. Repairs will include rehabilitation of the concrete beams and piers, and installation of new bridge drains and other work.

Due to the nature of this work, it will be necessary to close one lane of the bridge to traffic throughout the duration of the project. Traffic across the single open lane will be regulated by the use of “Stop’” and “Proceed When Clear” signage, as directed by MaineDOT traffic engineers to assure the safety of motorists and project workers. Wide loads will be restricted to no more than 12 feet in width across the bridge while the project is in progress.

If construction proceeds as planned and there are no delays due to weather, repairs are expected to be completed within four months.
