Construction set to begin on damaged section of Route 136

Starting Wednesday, October 28, MaineDOT will begin construction on a realignment of a damaged section of Route 136 in Auburn. This portion of Route 136 near the Auburn/Durham town line was damaged by a riverbank collapse in September of 2008. Drivers should expect delays during construction as the road will be limited to one-way, alternating traffic regulated by flaggers.

The construction of this temporary alignment will create a safer road for the upcoming winter months. Once the temporary realignment is complete, crews will reopen both lanes of traffic and suspend the project for the winter. In the spring, construction will resume and the contractor will begin a full reconstruction of approximately ½ mile of the road. As part of the reconstruction, crews will install new drainage and new guardrail, as well reinforce and stabilize the riverbank.

St. Laurent and Son of Lewiston is the contractor for the project. Route 136 connects Auburn and the Freeport/I-295 area and approximately 4,000 vehicles travel this road each day.
