Repairs To Penobscot Bridge to Begin Monday

Traffic on the Penobscot Bridge will be reduced from four lanes to two lanes for approximately four weeks as major transportation improvement work continues in Greater Bangor. MaineDOT crews will begin repairs to the Penobscot Bridge starting on Monday, April 27, 2009. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction and restricted to a maximum width of ten feet during the construction.

Vehicles over 25 feet in length will be restricted to straight-through movement on the Penobscot Bridge during construction.  Vehicles over 25 feet coming from the Brewer side of the bridge that need to access Washington Street, Hancock Street and Route 2/State Street will be directed to the posted truck detour across the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge, following Short Street to the Washington Street Spur.

The Maine Department of Transportation asks the traveling public to show patience and extra care during these Greater Bangor improvement projects. For more information or to sign up for e-mail alerts, please go to
