MaineDOT opens three new Park & Ride Lots

MaineDOT is pleased to announce that three new Park & Ride lots are now open for use in Bangor, Medway and New Gloucester; increasing the number of Park & Ride lots throughout the state to 53.

The new 40-space Bangor Park & Ride is the second in the city, and is located at the Wal-Mart store at 900 Stillwater Avenue. The Medway Park & Ride lot is located at the Irving Big Stop on State Route 157 and provides 26 spaces. The New Gloucester Park & Ride lot is on MaineDOT property located at the corners of Sabbath Day Road and State Route 26 with 32 spaces available.

The opening of the Park & Ride lots in Bangor and Medway were the result of private property owners in these communities working with MaineDOT to promote commuter use, carpooling and vanpooling.

The Park & Ride Lot Program is a statewide program that originated from a 1986 Transportation Needs Study to reduce congestion and air pollution, improve air quality, and reduce dependence on foreign oil. To date, there are 53 Park & Ride lots available to the public and they provide safe, secure and convenient commuter facilities for the traveling public and encourage carpooling, vanpooling, and use of public transportation systems such as GOMaine and Zoom.

MaineDOT works in conjunction with the Maine Turnpike Authority in administering the statewide program. For more information regarding the Park & Ride Lot Program, please visit the department’s website:
