MaineDOT Bridge Crews to work on three southern Oxford County bridges

MaineDOT bridge crews will be conducting maintenance activities on three bridges in southern Oxford County this week, and crews may need to limit traffic to one lane of alternating traffic in order to complete the work. Work on each of the three bridges is expected to begin at 7 a.m. on their scheduled day.

On Tuesday, crews will be working in Canton on the Bog Bridge, located on Route 140 over Bog Brook. This bridge is located 1.3 miles of the Hartford/Canton town line. On Wednesday, crews will be in Buckfield, working on the North Buckfield Bridge which spans the Nezinscot River, ½ mile south of the Sumner/Buckfield town line. Thursday, crews will be working in Norway on the Holt Bridge that carries Route 118 over Meadow Brook just east of the Shedd Road/Town Farm Road intersection.

These bridge maintenance activities involve in-water grouting of exposed abutment footings that have sustained scouring (erosion around bridge support piers) over the years due to heavy rain events. The grout material, which is pumped into bags by divers under water, shores up these footings and preserves the structural integrity of the substructures of the bridge. A single lane closure may be necessary to accommodate a concrete pump and cement truck throughout the morning, beginning at 7 a.m.

MaineDOT urges motorists to drive cautiously while traveling through the work area, and appreciates the patience of the traveling public during times when one-way traffic is in place.
