Forest Avenue in Orono to close in order to replace culverts

In order to replace several failing culverts along Forest Avenue in Orono, MaineDOT will close the road starting at 6:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 4, and if construction proceeds as planned, the road could reopen as early as Wednesday evening, August 5.

MaineDOT crews need to replace at least six of the culverts underneath Forest Avenue. The road will be closed in the Caribou Bog area, just east of Villa Vaughn and stretching to an area west of Taylor Road.

MaineDOT is closing the road to traffic in order to replace the culverts quickly and safely. Plans call for the culverts to be removed on Tuesday, and new culverts installed Wednesday. If removal and installation proceed as planned, the project could be completed within 36 hours.

All residents will be able to access their homes from either Stillwater Avenue or Essex Street.
