Route 161 in New Sweden to close for ten days Starting July 27

MaineDOT announced today that crews from CPM Constructors of Freeport will be replacing a failing culvert bridge over Bearsley Brook on Route 161 in New Sweden starting on Monday, July 27.

Route 161 will be closed for a period of ten days as crews remove the single multi-plate arch culvert bridge and replace it with double, multi-plate arch culvert bridge. Crews will also be replacing the guardrail along the culvert area and repaving the area immediately surrounding the culvert.

During the construction period, there will be a detour that utilizes Route 1, the Stockholm Road, School Street, Main Street, and Lake Street in order to bypass the construction area. The detour will be well marked with signs detailing the detour route. Road closed signs will be posted starting ten miles south of the project on Route 161, and five miles north of the project on Route 161. Crews started posting signage July 1; all signs are currently covered until the project begins.

CPM Constructors is the contractor for the $375,000 project.
