Bridge Repairs on Route 2 in New Sharon Set To Begin

Motorists driving Route 2 in New Sharon should expect delays as crews begin repair work Thursday morning on two bridges in town.

Crews will be installing temporary signal lights on Route 2 at the Sandy River Bridge and the Fillibrown Bridge on Thursday. These temporary signal lights will allow alternating, one-way traffic across the bridges as construction crews repair the bridges.

Wyman and Simpson of Richmond is the contractor for the two projects. Crews will be replacing the traveling surface on the Sandy River Bridge, and replacing the decking and the traveling surface on the Fillibrown Bridge. The decking of the bridge spans the support beams and is the foundation for the traveling surface. The cost for the two bridge rehabilitations is $775,000.

If construction proceeds as expected, repairs are expected to be complete by the end of September.

Motorists are asked to drive cautiously through the construction zone.
