Ramp and Lane closures to occur on I-295 between Topsham and Gardiner

Motorists can expect lane closures along I-295 between Topsham and Gardiner through August 24 in order for crews to finish work related to the I-295 Northbound project, including guardrail installations and paving.

The travel lane on I-295 Northbound will be closed south of the Exit 49 off-ramp to the toll plaza in Gardiner. Additionally, the Exit 49 and 51 on- and off-ramps will also be closed periodically. Ramps will remain open during the day, but will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on the following dates:

  • August 16th – Exit 49 on-ramp
  • August 17th – Exit 49 off-ramp
  • August 18th – Exit 49 off-ramp
  • August 19th – Exit 49 off-ramp
  • August 20th – Exit 49 on-ramp

There will also be periodic daytime lane closures on I-295 Northbound and Southbound during the next two weeks between Topsham and Gardiner. These closures will be for work on the crossovers used during the detours, and the median crossovers used by authorized state vehicles for maintenance, safety and law enforcement purposes.

Motorists are advised that there will be several crews working simultaneously on several projects during the next couple weeks and should be aware of changing traffic patterns, slow moving construction vehicles and construction personnel. The public is asked to curtail all cell phone use and concentrate on travel through these work zones.

More information on the project can be found at
