Construction Begins on Route 1 Road Improvements In Fort Kent

MaineDOT announced today that crews have begun preliminary work on a 3.75-mile section of Route 1 in Fort Kent and Frenchville.

The first phase of this project will improve drainage on this section of highway that begins near Pine Street in Fort Kent and extends 3.75 miles towards Frenchville. Over the next five months, crews will reclaim the surface pavement, and use that reclaimed pavement as the cement base for the new road that will be surfaced with three inches of asphalt.

During the construction, this section of Route 1 will be limited to alternating, one-way traffic regulated by flaggers. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of October, 2009.

Ed Pelletier & Sons of Madawaska is the contractor for this $3.9 million road rehabilitation project. Motorists are asked to reduce their speed and drive safely through the construction zone.
