MaineDOT conducts repairs on Route 5 Bridge in Fryeburg

MaineDOT bridge crews are conducting repairs to the Little Saco River Bridge in Fryeburg on Routes 5 and 113. A section of this road will be closed until Monday, September 28 in order to complete the repairs.

Crews are conducting emergency repairs to the bridge’s support footings which have deteriorated due to erosion and age. While there was no immediate danger to motorists using the bridge, left unrepaired, this bridge support system would likely fail, closing the road for an extended period of time.

A detour has been set up utilizing Route 160 in Brownfield, Route 117 in Denmark and South High Street and Route 302 in Bridgeton.

Repairs include pouring new concrete footings which will have to cure several days before the bridge can be placed on top of the footings. Crews expect to complete the repairs within two weeks, but will reopen the road early if work is completed earlier than expected.

MaineDOT thanks motorists for their patience and understanding as crews undertake these necessary bridge repairs.
