Bridge repair complete in Fryeburg, Routes 5 and 113 reopen ahead of schedule

MaineDOT bridge crews have completed repairs and have reopened the Little Saco River Bridge in Fryeburg on Routes 5 and 113. Routes 5 and 113 were reopened to traffic today at 3:30 p.m., six days ahead of schedule.

Crews conducted emergency repairs to the bridge’s support footings which had deteriorated due to erosion and age. While there was no immediate danger to motorists using the bridge, left unrepaired, the bridge support system would likely have failed, closing the road for an extended period of time.

Repairs included pouring new concrete footings for support of the new bridge, as well as repairs to the approach to the bridge.

MaineDOT thanks motorists for their patience and understanding during the time period that the bridge was closed.
