Eden Street (Route 3) in Bar Harbor To Close temporarily for ledge removal

On Monday, November 23, The Maine Department of Transportation must close a section of Eden Street (Route 3) in Bar Harbor in order to remove an unstable rock formation that is creating a traffic hazard due to falling rocks.

MaineDOT crews plan to close Eden Street (Route 3) at 7 a.m. on Monday in order to start removing the crumbling rock ledge. If removal goes as planned, crews will reopen Eden Street (Route 3) Wednesday afternoon. Motorists need to be aware that due to the heavy construction equipment needed to remove the ledge, the road will remain closed during the day and night. The construction site is located just south of the Park Loop Road entrance on Eden Street (Route 3).

Variable message boards are in place alerting motorists of the upcoming closure. On the day of the closure, cars will be directed to a signed detour that utilizes the Park Loop Road (Paradise Hill Road) and West Street Extension. Commercial vehicles that seek to access downtown Bar Harbor will be directed to Routes 198 and 233.
