Culvert replacement to close section of Route 5 in Stoneham

MaineDOT must close a section of Route 5 in Stoneham next Tuesday and Wednesday in order to replace a deteriorating culvert underneath Route 5 near the western shores of Keewaydin Lake.

Motorists will be directed to a detour that utilizes the Slab City Road in Lovell and the Butters Hill Road in Stoneham to bypass the closed area. Signs will be posted marking the detour.

Crews are expected to begin excavation at approximately 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8. If construction goes as planned, the road will be reopened by 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9.
