Construction resumes on Route 126 in Pittston

Road construction crews resumed work this Monday on a 2.6-mile stretch of Route 126 in Pittston.

This construction project will finalize a series of highway capital improvement projects conducted over the last several years on an approximately 14-mile section of the Route 126 corridor, which runs from Route 27 in Pittston to Route 213 in Jefferson.

Crews from Pratt & Sons of Minot, Maine, under the supervision of MaineDOT, are working on the project that begins at the intersection of Route 27 and 126 in Pittston, and continues 2.6 miles easterly towards Whitefield.  Along the way, the project will pass a number of local intersections in Pittston, including School Street, Putnam Mobile Home Park Road, Webb Road, and Pinkham Road

Since the start of construction last November, crews have worked on replacing culverts and removing trees. This spring, construction will consist of  widening shoulders, pavement reclamation, installing new guardrails and relocating utility poles. In some stretches, the entire roadway will be reconstructed to improve sightlines and drainage. The entire 2.6-mile section will also be repaved.

As the project continues, there will be occasional lane closures with two-way alternating traffic, with delays lasting up to five minutes. There will be exposed gravel surfaces of the road. Motorists are asked to use caution in the project area, due to road conditions as well as well as the presence of construction workers and flaggers.

The project began last November, but was suspended for the winter before resuming Monday. If construction goes as planned, the project should be completed in mid-September.
