MaineDOT to close Maxfield Bridge while repairs are underway

MaineDOT has decided to close the Maxfield Bridge on Valley Avenue in Bangor from December 13th through April.  The bridge, built in 1946, has been undergoing routine repairs for the past month. 

“Once we began doing the work it became apparent that we would need to jack the bridge up in order to do the repairs” explains Barry Prescott of MaineDOT’s Bangor office, where the work is being coordinated.  “There is deteriorating concrete under the bridge bearings so it’s better to do the repairs without traffic.”

Detour routes will be clearly marked and Valley Avenue will be closed to all but local traffic.
