I-295 BETWEEN EXITS 3 AND 4 TO EXPERIENCE NIGHTTIME LANE CLOSURES THIS WEEK

Motorists traveling southbound on I-295 should be aware that crews will start paving highway shoulders, and removal and installation of concrete barrier beginning the evening of Tuesday, September 15 (tonight). The work, which will occur from 7 p.m.-5:30 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, will result in lane restrictions on both sides of the highway between Exits 3 and 4. Lane closures will be kept to a minimum of 2,000 feet.

This work is part of a $5.3 million upgrade to this section of I-295, which will make the highway safer for motorists by adding an additional lane for entering and exiting the highway, adding a guardrail in the median, and installing a sound wall. The project is expected to continue until the beginning of December.

MaineDOT asks that motorists drive with caution and maintain the reduced speed limit while traveling. Motorists who reduce speed to observe construction activities have added to traffic delays and safety concerns over the past week.
