MAINEDOT ANNOUNCES THE EARLY REOPENING OF I-295 NORTHBOUND
Southbound traffic to continue using alternate routes for 1-2 days
Between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. today, MaineDOT will reopen the 17-mile stretch of I-295 Northbound between Topsham and Gardiner. The early reopening comes after a seven-week rehabilitation project during which the road was fully closed to completely rubblize the road, lay asphalt, replace guardrails and rehabilitate six bridges. I-295 Southbound, which served as the alternate route for northbound traffic during the closure, will remain closed for the next one to two days as it is converted back to its original state for southbound traffic. Route 201 and the Maine Turnpike will continue to serve as alternate routes for southbound travelers during this time.
Work will continue on I-295 Northbound for approximately one month as crews continue to install guardrails, pave ramps, and loam and seed the temporary crossovers. Motorists are advised that this work may necessitate partial ramp closures at night and sporadic lane closures during the day.
