Freeport road improvement projects to start June 2
MaineDOT announced today that CPM Constructors of Freeport will be working on four road improvement projects in Freeport early this summer. Work on three of the projects is expected to be complete by the end of June, and the fourth is expected to be done by mid-July.
Crews will be repaving a section of Route 1 between West Street and Mallett Drive. Crews will also repave Mallet Drive between Main Street and I-295; and repave South Street between Bow Street and West Street. Crews will also make improvements to drainage systems and guardrails along these roads. Crews will also repave the I-295 Exit 22 northbound ramp and reconfigure the ramp to improve safety.
Construction on these projects is scheduled to start on June 2. The Main Street, Mallett Drive and Exit 22 work is expected to be completed by June 28. Work on South Street is expected to finish by July 18.
During the weeks of June 2 through 6, and 16 through 20,the off-ramp at I-295 exit 22 (Mallett Drive) will be closed to all traffic. Message boards will redirect traffic to I-295 exit 20 (Desert Road). During this ramp closure, two-way traffic will be maintained on Main Street and Mallett Drive.
Precautions will be taken to minimize vehicular traffic along these routes through variable message boards and signage directing motorists to alternate Freeport Exits and side roads. Flaggers will also control crosswalk pedestrian traffic on roads with active construction equipment.
Lane closures on Main Street will be limited to between sunrise and 12:00 p.m. and after 7:00 p.m. although at this time, no night work is anticipated. No work will be allowed on Main Street on Saturdays. Additionally, paving on Main Street will be limited to between sunrise and 12:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Work on Mallett Drive is anticipated to occur during the day but may also be scheduled at night.
