MAINEDOT TRAFFIC INFORMATION FOR ROUTE 1 IN BELFAST
Starting today, southbound traffic on Route 1 in Belfast was shifted over to one of the two northbound lanes so that Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) bridge maintenance crews can replace a damaged I-beam on the High Street overpass. The bridge was damaged during a hit-and-run crash earlier this year. Message boards and other signage are in place to alert motorists of the traffic shift.
Because of the detouring of Route 1 southbound traffic, the normal off-ramp for Route 7 and Route 137 is closed. Signage has also been put up to direct those who wish to use Route 7 or Route 137 to take the Route 3 Exit and return on Route 1, where an off-ramp is available.
This repair work is expected to continue for upwards of three weeks, with weather being a decisive factor in the actual completion date.
