MAINEDOT BRIDGE WORK, LANE CLOSURES ON ROUTES 4/100/202 IN AUBURN
Beginning Monday, May 19th, Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) crews will be conducting test borings, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., on and in the vicinity of the Canadian National Railways Overpass, which carries Route 4/100/202 (Washington Street) over the rail line in Auburn. Motorists will observe drilling equipment in the work area, and the work will involve temporarily closing the travel lanes at various times in both directions.
The Routes 4/100/202 activities will be conducted at or near the railroad bridge, at a location close to the intersection with Kitty Hawk Avenue. MaineDOT technicians from the department’s Materials Testing and Exploration Division will be conducting these test borings to ascertain soil and bedrock conditions in preparation for a proposed project to replace the bridge overpass. The proposed bridge-replacement project is funded for construction, and is tentatively scheduled to advertise for construction in the fall of 2009.
While the test borings are being conducted and the lane closures are in progress, flaggers will establish alternating one-way traffic on Route 4/100/202. Drivers are urged to use special caution when approaching and passing through the work area. MaineDOT officials expect that the work will be completed by the end of May, weather permitting.
