50th Anniversary of the Interstate Highway System

It was called the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956, and it transformed the landscape of America. When President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed the legislation, it freed an enormous amount of money for construction. The highway boom that followed resulted in more than 46,000 miles of road making up the new system.
