Moose Crashes in Maine
- About 700 crashes with moose occur each year in Maine, resulting in
 several fatalities and 200 injuries. With moose weighing up to 1500 lbs. and standing 10' tall, collisions often knock out their thin legs and cause the moose to crush the vehicle’s passenger compartment.
- Moose crashes can happen anywhere in the state.
- 80% of Moose crashes and 90% of fatal crashes occur when it’s dark.
You may feel you can take a relaxed approach during lower-traffic nighttime driving, but it's then that it's vital that you SLOW DOWN and PAY ATTENTION.
