South Bristol "Gut Bridge" Replacement Project
MaineDOT is pleased to present renderings showing the new bridge design for The Gut in South Bristol. We hope you will agree that it is a great bridge for a great Maine coastal village.
We have listened carefully to input from our design engineers, the selectmen, full and part time residents, and an architect hired by a few residents. This was a unique and high-energy process, but we think the product speaks for itself. We now have a design for a bridge that will be reliable, maintainable, constructible and beautiful.
We thank everyone for their input, passion and patience. Looking forward, MaineDOT will be making decisions on final design details such as colors, textures, and landscaping. We expect to update the renderings below once these decisions are made. But the current swing bridge is getting worse and needs to be replaced as soon as possible, and we need to move forward. Barring unexpected permitting challenges, we expect to advertise for construction bids by the end of 2013, start construction next year, and have this new great bridge completed by mid-2015.
