The Surface Water Resources Unit is a multi-disciplinary staff that provides technical assistance to the Department in erosion and sedimentation control, stormwater management and other surface water concerns in the State of Maine. The Unit offers training to MDOT staff and consultants in surface water quantity and quality concerns. They also assist the Maine Department of Environmental Protection (MDEP), Nonpoint Source Training and Resource Center in training Certified Contractors in Erosion Control Practices.

Through a Stormwater Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the MDEP, the Unit oversees the implementation of a temporary erosion and sediment control standard for all MDOT construction projects. Each year we provide report to the MDEP summarizing these activities.
