Route 1A in Ellsworth in Now Under Construction

What's New

About the Project

MaineDOT is reconstructing a seven-mile stretch of Route 1A in Ellsworth to improve mobility and safety along this busy corridor. The work of removing existing pavement, grading and repaving this road is underway and will continue through the fall of 2010. The entire stretch will receive an additional layer of pavement in the spring of 2011 and the project will be completed by July, 2011.

During the 2010, travelers can expect two-way traffic during the day, with significant night work as well. Workers may be busy in the construction zone every day, around the clock. Drivers are strongly urged to slow down, drive safely and allow for extra time. Though construction hours are difficult to predict, commuters may wish to avoid peak travel times, especially during the construction season.

If you are headed to the DownEast or Acadia Regions, plan ahead. You can choose the route that best fits your travel plans and enjoy the sites, shops and eateries along the way. You can sign up for email alerts (link to the left) for notification of delays, temporary closures and other relevant travel updates for this project.
