Deer Isle-Sedgwick Bridge Project
The Deer Isle-Sedgwick Bridge is undergoing a $6 million re-decking project.
The next full opening for the Deer Isle-Sedgwick Bridge is scheduled for Saturday, May 24th and Sunday, May 25th. The Contractor is also not allowed to work on Monday, May 26th, due to the Memorial Day Holiday. MaineDOT will do everything we can to keep you up to date and minimize disruption.
During the full openings all equipment will be completely removed from the bridge and traffic will be able to pass without restrictions. Permitted wide loads (wider than 9 feet) will be allowed to pass due to special provisions attained for deliveries to and from Deer Isle. Please try to schedule these deliveries during off-peak times when tourists aren’t commuting.
Next Tentative Full Opening Dates:
- June 21st and 22nd (Lupine Festival)
Please keep in mind that at this time the June 21st and 22nd dates are tentative and could change due to weather and the current work operations. MaineDOT and the Contractor will continue to monitor the work in progress and provide timely updates when they are known.
These dates are tentative and dependent on construction activity at that time.

Give ‘em a brake!
- Work crews are on site day and night. Please drive with caution.
- The travel lane in the work zone is only 9 feet wide! This is very narrow for your vehicle as well as for construction crews that are working right next to the travel lane.
- The speed limit for the bridge is 25 MPH. Once you enter the area of the bridge where construction is taking place, the speed limit drops to 15 MPH for cars and and 5 MPH for trucks.
- Weight Limits for the Deer Isle Bridge remain the same. Trucks weighing more than 20,000 pounds must maintain spacing of a minimum 500 feet.
- State Police are patrolling the project and fines are doubled in work zone areas for your protection as well as for the safety of our crews.
Thank you and remember…we’re all in this together so please drive safely and courteously.
