Information About Revisions

Over the last several years, MaineDOT has been preparing revisions to the 2002 Standard Specification Book. This 2014 draft reflects needed updates, rather than a complete rewrite, of the Standard Spec Book. Our focus for revisions includes:

  • Removing references to metric units;
  • Updating testing references;
  • Incorporating the "Repair Specification;"
  • Inserting new specifications;
  • Correcting or updating existing specifications;
  • And clarifying specifications as needed based on historic use and interpretation.

In a parallel effort, a team of design, technical and construction personnel began updating MaineDOT’s Standard Details for Construction.

MaineDOT will be taking comments through March 15th. Your comments should include the specific Division, Section Number, and Section Title. We will accept comments from individuals, contractors, and industry organizations. We are encouraging contractors to coordinate their comments with their industry organizations, such as ACEC,AGC, MAPA etc.

The Department will post comments, questions, and answers, as the come in, on the "FAQs" page, in an effort to reduce duplication of questions.

A hard copy of the update can also be viewed at the Transportation Library at MaineDOT headquarters located at 16 Child St. Augusta ME.

We will be setting up meetings with various industry groups to get direct feedback and discuss the proposed changes. We will post the dates, times and locations of those meetings at www.mainedot.gov/publicmeetings/ .

Our goal is to have the updated Standard Specifications and Standard Details ready for implementation in the fall/winter of the 2014 construction season. Thank you for your interest and feedback.

Please submit your comments via our comment form or fax your comments to 207-624-3401.
