> Bicycling and Walking in Maine
Bicycling and Walking in MaineMaineDOT strives to make bicyclists and pedestrians integrated elements of our intermodal transportation system. Bicyclists and pedestrians are significant partners in MaineDOT’s efforts, providing cost effective solutions to our State’s mobility, safety and environmental goals. We have the ability to make our State’s highways, structures and public transportation system into one of the most efficient, intermodal transportation systems in the nation. Facilities for pedestrians and bicyclists are considered for incorporation into highway, bridge, and transit projects, and integrated throughout MaineDOT’s policy, planning, implementation, and operations efforts. Below you can discover some of Maine’s best bicycling tours, check out a scenic walking route (or suggest one to other walkers), find information on off-road bicycle/pedestrian trails, and learn more about bicycle commuting in Maine. Our resource page also has information on getting involved with bicycle/pedestrian advocacy groups that are working to make Maine a better place to walk and bike |
