There is No Excuse for Land Abuse

Land abuse is a very serious problem in the State of Maine. Each year, access to private property is lost due to land abuse. If you see a violation occurring, contact Operation Game Thief at 1(800) ALERT-US [1(800) 253-7887]. There is NO EXCUSE for land abuse.

This is unacceptable abuse of private property by ATV users by ignoring landowner signs and gates. Some riders decided to make their own trails and now all of this land is posted by these two landowners. Charges of “Criminal Trespass” may be issued to anyone caught doing this type of damage.

These photos show unacceptable abuse of private property. Snowmobiles on a pipeline utility corridor ran over this plastic marker for no reason. Tops of Christmas trees broken off by snowmobiles when snow was deeper and landowner has lost the value of the trees.

All the above unethical behavior by a miniority presents a very negative image of outdoor recreational activities enjoyed by many. These types of land abuse is what causes more and more land to become posted and then off limits for all to enjoy.

THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR LAND ABUSE!
