Sylvia Sim is being assisted by Gary Boyle and Susan Phelps who is learning the myriad of laws and procedures associated with registering cars, trucks, boats, trailers and recreational vehicles. Together they are working hard to reduce your registration time to a minimun with little or no waiting in line. As you probably know we have changed our office hours to better serve you. We are now open Thursday evenings (2-6). In an effort to make your registration experience more efficient we are providing the following information. Here is what you will need to bring with you to ensure Sylvia, Gary, and Susan can register your vehicle:
Renew A Registration- Current Registration
- Currnt Milage
- Insurance Card
"New To You" Vehicle - Dealer Purchase
- Dealer Certification (green form) of Sales Tax Paid
- Application for title form (CTA Form) provided by dealer
- Insurance Card
- Current Milage
- If new, bring the Monroney Lable (Window Sticker with list price)
- If transferring plates then bring old vehicle registration
"New To You" Vehicle - Private Sale
- If 1990 to Present you will need the Title of the "New" vehicle with the back side completed and signed by the original owner. This is very important!!!!
- If there was a lien holder then they must sign the Title along with the previous owner.
- A Bill of Sale
- If transferring plates from another vehicle then bring the other vehicles registration.
- Insurance Card
- Current Milage of "new car"
Commercial Vehicles
- If the vehicle will not leave the State the process is the same as above.
- If the vehicle will travel outside the State of Maine you will pay your Excise Tax at the Town Office before going to a State of Maine Motor Vehicle Registration office.
Transit Plates - Point A to Point B (Note -Temp Plates are only issued by dealers)
- Transit Vehicle must have inspection sticker
- Transit Vehicle must have Insurance Card
Trailer Registrations - 3000 lb or Less - Dealer Sales
- Bill of Sale
- Dealer Sales Tax Certification (Green Form)
Trailer Registrations - More than 3000 lb - Dealer Sale
- Bill of Sale
- Dealer Sales Tax Certification (Green Form)
- Application For Title (CTA)
Trailer Registrations - 3000 lb or less - Private Sale Trailer Registration - 3000 lb or more - Private Sale
- Bill of Sale
- Title with back side completed and signed by previous owner.
NOTE: There is no excise tax on trailers except for Recreational Trailers.
Motorcycles are the same as cars unless they are less than 300cc - no title is involved for the smaller motorcycle
