Eddington Fire Department
The Eddington Fire Department was organized in 1947 by the citizens of Eddington. The Department provides services to the Town of Eddington and is contracted to provide services to the Town of Clifton. The Department operates out of one station and maintains five pieces of apparatus. This includes 2 engines, a tanker, a brush/utility truck, and a non-transporting rescue. The Department has approximately 30 members which are on a paid-on call status. The Eddington Fire Department is dispatched by Penobscot Regional Communications Center. Capital Ambulance provides ambulance service to Eddington and Clifton residents. In 2007 the Eddington Fire Depatment responded to 291 calls. This is an increase of 73 from 2006.

Automatic aid continues to be great. It speeds up the response of equipment and personnel in the critical first minutes of an emergency. Automatic response towns include Brewer, Eddington, Holden, Orrington, and Dedham. This is the automatic response districts for structure fires. In addition, the Eddington and Holden Fire Departments have a separate agreement. Both towns are dispatched simultaneously to all fire related emergencies (fire alarms, smoke in building, etc.). This is to help get equipment and manpower to an emergency scene quickly.

Eddington Fire Department Report 2007 On the behalf of the Eddington Fire Department members, I would like to thank the citizens for providing us with the addition and remodeling of the Fire Department. The remodeling project has greatly increased our working space. Some of the projects we are working on around the station include gear lockers for the fire fighting gear, increasing the size of the hose storage rack, hanging pictures and other things to make it feel like "our station". Even though Alan Boynton has stepped down after five years of service as our chief, we wish to thank him for his dedication to the department. Alan will continue to be with the department as a fire fighter. The dedication of our "on-call" fire fighters and emergency medical technicians is very important to the success of the department. They put in many hours of fire and EMS training to keep their skills and learn new ones as the technology and demands upon the fire service increases. Many other hours are put in keeping the equipment in top shape, cleaning the station, testing hose, etc., and this list can go on forever. There is always something to do around the station. The Halloween party hosted at the department continues to be a big success. I think the fire department members had almost as much fun putting it on as the kids (adults included) attending. During Fire Prevention Week crews took the fire trucks to the school to discuss fire safety with the kids as well as giving them a chance to look over the fire trucks and equipment. The Department does have a junior membership program for students 16 to 17 years of age. They are limited as to what they can do, but there are many things they can do and they learn some valuable skills. Several have stayed on to become regular members of the department. The department is always looking for new members. If you might be interested, give us a call at 842-5251 or stop by the station any Wednesday and visit us on our training night. Total calls for 2007 were 291, an increase of 25% over last year. Of those calls, 27% were fire/service related calls (fires, trees down, flooded basements, etc.), and 73% were emergency medical calls. The EMS part of the fire service continues to grow. I again wish to tank the Citizens and Selectmen of the Town of Eddingtonfor you continued support. Sincerely, Gene D. Kelso
