Alna Facilities Planning Committee Minutes for Meeting of 2/18/08 Alna Fire Station 7:00 P.M. Present: Nick Caristo (NC), John Green (JG), Gordon Davis (GD), Fred Gumkowski (FG), and Kathy Pendleton (KP), Tom Albee (TA) Absent: Cliff Russell, Brian Lawrence Also in attendance: Mike Trask, Roger Whitney, Paul Ouellette and Chris Cooper NC convened the meeting at 7:05 and mentioned the largest agenda item of the evening would be the evaluation of the best wording and strategy for the warrant article dealing with the town building facilities for the town meeting. The meeting was turned over to Chris who provided a thoughtful and incisive dissertation on various ways to word and construct town meeting warrant articles. His years as town meeting moderator has given him much insight on the best ways to handle complex town issues. There was good interactive dialog with the committee. Issues such as whether to include a separate article for the town office work was also debated as well the wisdom of using a secrete paper ballot for this vote. At the end of the discussion, it was agreed that Chris Cooper would construct a draft of the article from a blend of his ideas and various committee suggestions and send it to Nick and John for review. They, in turn, may want to pass it by MMA for their legal opinion. The committee voted unanimously for this approach. Nick also handed out three rough drafts of possible warrant article wording re the topics discussed above. Next, a review of the actual fire depart. truck size requirements ensued. The discussion resulted in refinements to any new building dimensions by reducing the size of the bays for any new building, should the town select that option. The new building option cost was reduced to approx. $755k. (this option and price still includes a new town meeting room). If the meeting room is broken out separately, for cost purposes, that figure would be approx. $78k. The final figure for the addition to the existing fire house is now $440k. The next committee meeting is set for Tuesday 2/26/08. Note the change in day. Respectfully submitted, Gordon Davis
