Minutes for Meeting of 2/11/08

Absent:   Cliff Russell

Also in attendance: Mike Trask, Roger Whitney and Paul Ouellette

NC convened   the meeting at 7:05 and mentioned the bulk of the evening would be devoted to working on the Power Point presentation prepared by CR & JG for the public meeting next Tue. (2/19/08).

Before beginning this, however, he wanted to review our latest cost estimates for the 2 firehouse alternatives. The latest version of the new firehouse with an attached town meeting room is coming in around $850k. To help put this in some perspective; Nick has made a rough estimate of the financing cost in terms of property tax impact for both the new fire house and the addition and renovation of the existing facility. Assuming a 30 mortgage at the prevailing interest rate this would yield approx. a $110 increase per $100k of property value. The calculations do not take into account proceeds from the sale of the existing fire house which would reduce this figure.

Although FG has not finished a final figure for the enlargement and renovation of the existing fire house, it looks as though it will come in around $420k. Using the same calculation methodology as above, this would result in approx. a $60 increase per $100k of property value.

For the present, the committee has decided to not address any changes to the current Town Office as the inspector’s report was fairly favorable on its condition. There are some modifications which should be made to the handicap ramp and stairway to the second floor.   FG provided us with an approx estimate for these at $20k.

The rest of the time was spent discussing the Power Point slides which CR & JG did a great job of assembling. There were minor changes suggested and NC suggested adding information on the committee’s mission and scope of work.   These will be reviewed next Mon the 18th in preparation for the public meeting on the 19th.

A snow date of Thursday the 21st has been set.   Meeting was adjourned at 8:55.

Respectfully submitted:
