Basic Guidelines for Registering New or Used Vehicles & Obtaining New Plates (Town of Farmingdale only)

  1. Bring to the Town Office the Green sales Tax form, the Blue Title application form, your Insurance Card (You’ll need it in Augusta),

  2. A Bill of Sale , and for New cars only, the Monroney sticker. (Window Sticker)

  3. Pay excise tax on vehicle as determined by the town.

  4. Fill out back of the White Registration form.

  5. Take both forms given to you by the town (White & Yellow), the Green sales tax form, the Blue Title application, the Insurance Card and Bill of Sale to Motor Vehicle. Cost of new plates is $25 for a standard chickadee plate, $15 extra for a vanity and $20 extra initial cost for conservation plates and then $15 extra each year after that.

Basic Guidelines for Transferring plates from one Vehicle to Another.

  1. Make sure vehicle being transferred from is no longer in your possession. You cannot transfer plates from vehicle #1 to vehicle #2, if you still own vehicle #1.

  2. Bring to the Town Office your Registration from your old vehicle (vehicle #1), Blue Title application from new vehicle (if available), Green Sales tax form for new vehicle (if available), Insurance Card, and Bill of Sale.

  3. Pay excise tax based on the difference between your old Registration and the new one, plus $3 transfer fee. Town will determine and advise if it is to your advantage to transfer or not.

  4. Fill out back of White Registration form.

  5. Take both forms given to you by the town (White & Yellow), Green Sales tax form, Blue Title application, your old registration, Bill of Sale, and Insurance Card to motor vehicle. The cost of transferring plates at Motor Vehicle is $8.
