Benton Town OfficeTOWN OFFICE CLOSED.   The Benton Town Office will be closed Thursday, THANKSGIVING DAY and Friday November 27th, THANKSGIVING FRIDAY    Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

BENTON.  Benton is in Kennebec County along the I-95 corridor between Bangor and Augusta.  Benton offers the pleasant feeling of small town closeness combined with easy access to all the benefits of the total mid-Maine community.   The Town Office mail/e-mail addresses, phone numbers and hours of operation are on the right side of this home page under "Contact Information."  -- MONTHLY MEETINGS.  The Selectmen meet at 7:00 PM on the second Monday of each month at the Benton Town Office.  The Planning Board meets at 7:00 PM on the second Tuesday of each month at the Benton Town Office.  The Library Committee meets at 7:00 PM on the last Wednesday of each month at the Benton Town Office.  Agendas that are available in advance will be posted on this site under "Meetings & Minutes" (on the left side of this page).

BENTON ELECTION RESULTS, NOV 3.     Question 1 (Repeal same-sex marriages): 859 YES, 389 NO; Question 2 (Lower excise tax): 298 YES, 942 NO; Question 3 (Repeal school district consolidation): 570 YES, 646 NO; Question 4 (TABOR): 548 YES, 688 NO; Question 5 (Allow more medical marijuana): 622 YES, 622 NO; Question 6 (Highway bond): 729 YES, 498 NO; and Question 7 (More time to certify petition signatures): 525 YES, 678 NO.

SNOWMOBILE LAW BOOKS.   Per the State's Inland Fisheries Department, there are no snowmobile law books available and none will be printed.   The only changes in snowmobile laws from last year involve  the fee changes.   Maine snowmobile rules and regulations can be viewed electronically  by accessing the website  at:   http://www.maine.gov/ifw/atv_snowmobile_watercraft/snowmobile.htm

CEMETERY CLEAN-UP.  The Benton Cemetery Committee asks all cemetery lot holders to please remove flowers, vases and other mementos from their lots by October 31st.  This will aid in fall and early spring cemetery clean-ups.   The Town will not be responsible for items left after October 31st.   Thank you for your help.

EMERGENCIES.   For any emergency, dial 9-1-1.  For non-emergency law enforcement matters, call the Kennebec Sheriff's Office ( http://www.kennebecso.com/ ) or the Maine State Police ( http://www.maine.gov/dps/msp/ ).   For non-emergency fire and rescue issues (including burn permits), call the Fairfield Fire Department at 453-2429.

NECK ROAD project.   Per an e-mail forwarded by Rep. Ken Fletcher on 6/24/09:  "Design for this project is complete.  Schedule advertise date 10/07/09.  Latest date to advertise 01/28/10.   Construction begin date set 5/01/10 with a complete date 9/30/10.  As with all projects, this is contingent on available funding at the time of advertisement."
