VETERAN LICENSE PLATES.  Veterans license plates are available at the Town Office.  Applicants must provide a copy of their DD-214.  Other Veteran plates (e.g., Disability Special Veteran Plate, Purple Heart, Disabled Veteran, Former Prisoner of War, Purple Heart Motorcycle, etc.) are issued by the State.  For more info, visit:  http://www.maine.gov/sos/bmv/registration/vetplatesavailable.htm

SPECIALTY LICENSE PLATES.   State fee - the standard Chickadee plate fee is $35.00.  The following specialty plates are an additional $20.00 for the first year and $15.00 for each subsequent year: Conservation (Loon), University of Maine (Black Bear and UM System), Agriculture, Support your Troops, Breast Cancer Awareness and Sportsman … except the Sportsman/“Support Wildlife“ plate is $20.00 for the first year and $20.00 for renewals as well as new.   To view the types of specialty plates that are available, visit: http://www.maine.gov/sos/kids/maine-government/licenseplates.htm

VANITY PLATES.  Vanity plates are $25.00 in addition to regular fees.  The first-time vanity plate must be obtained through Augusta BMV.  If it's a new vehicle registration, residents must pay the vehicle excise tax first - at the Town Office - before applying for the vanity plate.  If the vehicle is already registered and not due for re-registration, then the vanity plate application can be processed directly with BMV via internet or mail.  Once a resident has a vanity plate, re-registrations can be done at the Town Office.   Information about vanity motor vehicle license plates is on-line at:  https://www10.informe.org/bmv/vanity/ .
