Residents of the Town of Benton ME are entitled to one (1) 10'x10' cemetery lot without the perpetual care fee. Additional 10'x10' lots are available to residents for a $400.00 perpetual care fee per lot. Perpetual care payments will be made to the Town of Benton specifying the cemetery and lot number. All lot holders must install a minimum of four (4) cornerstoes within ninety (90) days of this agreement unless other arrangements are made with The Benton Cemetery Committee. All grave markers must be flush with the ground to facilitate mowing and trimming. Only three burial vaults/caskets are allowed on a 10'x10' lot. The number of cremations vessels is limited to the space available. The suggested size for a cremation burial is 2'x2'x2'. Families may bury cremains on lots themselves without the assistance of funeral homes and grave diggers. The families will provide the Town of Benton with a copy of the cremation at the time of the cremains burial. Do not remove the survey spikes. The head of the spike may be stamped with name or initials of lot holder(s). Planters, flower urns, other decorations, etc. should be placed within eighteen (18) inches of the lot's monument or headstones. Annuals and small perennials may also be planted within eighteen (18") inches of the lot's monument or headstones. Trimming around personal decorations on a lot shall be the responsibility of the lot holders. Please do not plant shrubs or trees. All flowers and plant containers, decorations, artificial flowers, etc. must be removed from the lots by Columbus Day weekend if the holders wish to reuse these items. The mowing and trimming contract for the cemeteries runs from as early as weather permits in May to September 30 of each year. Rules subject to change.
