Senator Rodney L. Whittemore
On November 6, 2012, the people of District 26 re-elected Senator Rod Whittemore to represent them in the Maine State Senate. District 26 is comprised of Anson, Athens, Bingham, Brighton Plantation, Canaan, Caratunk, Central Somerset Unorganized Territory, Cornville, Dennistown Plantation, Embden, Fairfield, Highland Plantation, Jackman, Madison, Moose River, Moscow, New Portland, Norridgewock, Northeast Somerset Unorganized Territory, Northwest Somerset Unorganized Territory, Pleasant Ridge Plantation, Seboomook Lake Township, Skowhegan, Solon, Starks, The Forks Plantation and West Forks Plantation
A lifelong resident of Skowhegan, Whittemore owns and operates Whittemore and Sons, a small business that sells and services outdoor power equipment. Starting at a young age, he worked at various jobs: grocery store, painter, shoe shop, poultry and dairy farms, gas station and a car dealership. Prior to founding his family's business in 1970, he was an insurance agent for three years. He is also a veteran of six years in the Army National Guard, attached to the 112th Air Ambulance Company.
In addition to his service as a current member of the Skowhegan Planning Board, Whittemore served formerly as chairman of the Skowhegan Sewer and Water Committee, and was a charter member of the Skowhegan Elks Club. He was a former teacher and administrator of the high school youth ministry program at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church in Skowhegan, where he also served as a member of the parish council.
Whittemore served on the Governor's Task Force for ATV Legislation, and is now serving on a National Dealer Council for the Outdoor Power Equipment Industry. He is active in several outdoor industry related organizations, including the Recreational Motorsports Association of Maine. He is also a member of the National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB).
An outdoor enthusiast, sailor and woodworker, he lives in Skowhegan with his wife, the former Coralee Arsenault. They have three grown sons, Jason, Jeremy and Chad, along with their wives, Paula, Kristin and Shelley and 8 grandchildren.
