Some things about the chamber audio

You can minimize the audio window and do other work while you are listening?

The Chamber Display Board window can be resized by clicking on the outside edge - hold the mouse button and drag the border in or up to make it smaller.  Now you can drag it and place it anywhere on your desktop.

Senate President and House Speaker Approve
Appropriation Committee Web-Broadcasts

President Bennett and Speaker Saxl Agree to Make Audio of Budget Proceedings Available

(AUGUSTA, ME) – Maine Senate President Richard A. Bennett (R-Norway) and House Speaker Michael V. Saxl (D-Portland) have directed the Legislature to broadcast over the Internet the deliberations of the Appropriations Committee, starting with the budget hearings next week.  The intention is to broadcast when the House and Senate are not in session, beginning within the next few days.

“In keeping with my desire to have as open a legislative process as possible, we are moving forward with yet more audio-streaming,” President Bennett said.  “The very important work of the Appropriations Committee, which deals with all spending bills – including the budget – should be heard by as many Maine citizens as possible, not just the few who have time to travel to Augusta to hear these important deliberations.”

Speaker Saxl is excited about setting this precedent.  “The state’s spending proposals should have as much open debate as possible,” Speaker Saxl said.  “With a $250 million budget shortfall looming, this service will further enhance Maine citizens’ opportunity to participate in the legislative process.”

This is the first session that the Senate and House have been broadcasting their sessions online.

SUBJECT: Senate Chamber Audio Broadcast over the Internet

I have authorized the expenditure of funds to broadcast Senate chamber audio over the Internet. The intention is to start live broadcast when the Second Regular Session commences on January 2, 2002. Initially up to 300 Maine citizens will be able to hear the Senate session in real time. If demand requires it, capacity can be expanded in the future.

I am excited about this initiative as it will allow the public even greater access to Maine's historically very open legislative process. It also increases accountability to our constituents.
