and the Governance System of the
Governor Baxter School for the Deaf
NOTICE of PUBLIC FORUM
Friday, October 22, 1999

The Task Force invites public comment on issues related to:
(1) the effectiveness of the educational programs and outreach services provided by the Governor Baxter School for the Deaf to Deaf and Hard-of-hearing students; and
(2) the redesign of the governance system currently in place for the Baxter School.
The Task Force is required to review the educational program and the governance system of the Governor Baxter School for the Deaf to ensure that the school is meeting its statewide obligation and role of helping local schools educate Deaf and Hard-of-hearing children in an efficient and effective manner. If appropriate, the Task Force is further directed to recommend a design for a new governance system for the Governor Baxter School for the Deaf and to prepare a plan that will help the school develop the capacity to implement a more effective governance system.

The public is invited to attend the meeting of the Task Force, which begins at 9 a.m. in the K Building Conference Room; however, public comment will be taken beginning at 2:30 p.m.

Task Force Duties:
The task force shall review the educational program of the Governor Baxter School for the Deaf to ensure that the school is meeting its statewide obligation and role in helping local schools educate deaf and hard-of-hearing children in an efficient and effective manner, and, if appropriate, the task force shall recommend a design for a new governance system for the Governor Baxter School for the Deaf and shall prepare a plan that will help the school develop the capacity to implement a system that is more efficient and effective than the current governance system.
No later than December 3, 1999, the task force shall submit a report that includes its findings together with any recommendations for legislation to the Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs or for supplemental budget appropriations to the Joint Standing Committee on Appropriations and Financial Affairs.
