Rep. Flemings
Rep. Elspeth “Elsie” Flemings is serving her second term in
the Legislature, where she is continuing her service as a member of the
Taxation Committee. Elsie lives in Bar Harbor, and in addition to her legislative
duties, she works for Healthy Acadia, a community health organization serving
the greater Mount Desert Island region. Elsie serves as a trustee of the
Mount Desert Island Hospital, she is a Legislative Representative on the
state-wide Community Preservation Advisory Committee, and she serves as
a board member of the Maine Association of Conservation Commissions.
A graduate of College of the Atlantic, Elsie has also worked as
a legislative aid in a Congressional Office in Washington D.C,
and as a fair trade organizer. She served as the Coordinator of
SustainUS Maine and subsequently the Secretary of SustainUS National,
an organization dedicated to promoting environmental, social and
economic sustainability. Elsie participated in the 2005 UN Climate
Change Treaty Negotiations in Montreal, and was selected by the
U.S. State Department as the youth representative on the U.S. government's
delegation to the UN Commission on Sustainable Development. In
her work and life, Rep. Flemings is committed to promoting vibrant
communities, economic opportunities and fairness, and environmental
sustainability here in Maine and beyond.
