Representative Andre E. Cushing
Representative Andre Cushing was first elected to the Maine House of Representatives in 2008, representing District 39, which includes Dixmont, Hampden, and Newburgh. He is serving his first term as Assistant House Majority Leader.
Rep. Cushing is a member of the Hampden Town Council, where he serves as deputy mayor and chairs the Planning & Development Committee and the Communications Committee. Andre has been a small business owner for more than 25 years and is currently a realtor and a home builder.
He grew up in Bangor, attending John Bapst High School and the University of Maine. Prior service in local government includes a stint as a town councilor and membership on a Land Use Review Committee and a Charter Committee. Additionally, he has served on the board of numerous civic and community organizations, from Jaycees, Rotary, and Kiwanis to a position as president of the boards of the EMMC Children's Miracle Network and the Black Bear United Football Club. Rep. Cushing's community involvement comes partly from being a member of a family with a passion for service.
He and his wife, Gwen, have three children: Grace (who, following in the family tradition, is also active in politics), Andre IV, and Gerald.
