Fredette Statement on Medicaid Expansion Enactment

Senate sends welfare spending bill to Governor LePage

AUGUSTA - Maine House Republican Leader Ken Fredette of Newport issued the following statement upon the Maine Senate's enactment of LD 1487 late Friday morning. The bill to enact ObamaCare's welfare expansion in Maine will now go to the desk of Governor Paul LePage, where it is expected to be vetoed.

"I am glad that we have a Governor who looks out for Maine taxpayers, seniors, disabled people, and future generations by stopping this disastrous measure to expand welfare for able-bodied adults yet again. We just paid off $750 million in hospital debt and are currently dealing with a perennial budget shortfall, both problems caused by out of control spending in the very program Maine Democrats want to expand. Letting this welfare expansion go into law would be the biggest fiscal and economic mistake in Maine' s history."
