FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Rep. Rich Cebra Takes Post on State
and Local Government Committee
AUGUSTA - State Rep. Rich Cebra has been assigned to the Legislature's State and Local Government Committee, which has jurisdiction over a broad range of areas, including state contracts and fiscal procedures, as well as oversight of state officials and the Legislature itself.
Rep. Cebra (R-Naples) is taking on his new assignment to fill a committee vacancy created by an illness. He will remain the House chair of the Transportation Committee.
"I'm looking forward to this opportunity," said Rep. Cebra, a small business owner now serving his fourth term in the House. "Local government operations are extremely important in our state - it's really where the rubber meets the road. I'm interested in making sure that Maine towns get the kind of help they need from Augusta and that we are providing the kind of oversight that's vital to our system of government."
The Maine Legislature has 16 joint standing committees, each composed of 13 members - three state senators and 10 representatives. Every committee has jurisdiction over clearly defined parts of state government.
Besides the areas listed above, the State and Local Government Committee's portfolio includes state property and state employees, boards and commissions, notaries public, capitol area planning, county and regional government and county budget processes.
