"The first session of the 125th Legislature was one of extraordinary accomplishment. Working together, Republicans and Democrats passed a two year budget that contains the largest tax cut in Maine history and reforms to the state retirement system that will protect the program's longevity and save taxpayers billions. At the same time, this budget does not cut education funding or programs that protect our most vulnerable citizens. Two other goals we achieved are passing health care legislation that will extend affordable coverage and more competition to Mainers and regulatory reform that will help foster a new business friendly environment across the state. I believe that the achievements of this first session are a good down payment on the changes Maine voters demanded last November."
